Russian currency is the ruble. It is recommended to exchange your national currency at bank offices; there are quite a few of those in every city district.

Nowadays, kopeks have practically got out of use and normal operations are done in rubles.  Most everywhere you can pay with your debit/credit cards. However, there might occur small stores, kiosks and many other vendors which operate in cash, please be ready for that.
