A solemn conference dedicated to an important event - the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Republic of the Union of Myanmar, was held in Korabelka.

Cooperation between Russia and Myanmar has been steadily expanding in recent years. Myanmar Ambassador Lwin Oo and Rector SMTU Gleb Turichin signed an Agreement on Educational and Academic Cooperation.
 
Today the countries of South-East Asia need specialists in digital technology, ship design, ship construction and marine engineering.
 
Rector Gleb Turichin noted: «Korabelka is a leader among St. Petersburg universities according to the number of specialists trained for Myanmar. At the moment 21 Myanmar students are studying at Master’s and PhD programs in «Shipbuilding, ocean and system engineering of marine infrastructure». Twenty students have successfully defended their theses and received PhD degrees. Our postgraduate, Professor Thurein Kyaw Lwin, is an Honorary Doctor of St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University».
 
Vyacheslav Kalganov, Deputy Chairman of St. Petersburg Government Committee for External Relations, said: «Myanmar diaspora, the very students sitting here in the hall, play a huge role in the dialogue... The Committee, for its part, will do everything to further develop relations with the friendly Myanmar.
 
Alexander Ostrovsky, Vice President of the Russia - Myanmar association for friendship and cooperation, pointed out that Myanmar shipyards employ engineers trained at Korabelka. The University is well known in the country.
In the end SMTU Myanmar students sang "We are together" in Russian.
 
After the conference, the guests had a tour to ILWT and Museum of Shipbuilding and Shipbuilding Education History.
